Stracathro Pre-Assessment Department

stracthro pre assessment department
Based in SRTC, with access from the outpatient department reception, the pre-assessment department is responsible for ensuring your fitness for both the anaesthetic and your proposed operation.

In Stracathro, we assess patients who are scheduled for surgery in any of the NHS Tayside hospitals. We also assess patients from Grampian and Fife. Stracathro has strict admission criteria to ensure patients coming to Stracathro are suitable for surgery.

Patients will be interviewed by a pre-assessment nurse, where they will be asked questions relating to their general health and home circumstances. They may also have routine tests undertaken when these are indicated as part of their assessment. These can include blood pressure recording, blood tests, urine tests, etc.  They may also see other members of staff e.g. doctor during your appointment.

Some patients may only require a telephone assessment to establish their fitness for surgery.

Pre-assessment helps to identify any risk factors that require further investigation or management prior to attending for surgery and patients will receive their date for surgery when they have been assessed and confirmed as suitable for surgery by the pre-assessment team.
