Day Hospital at RVH to hold Open Day

The Day Hospital at Royal Victoria Hospital in Dundee is opening its doors to the public on Thursday 25 August to celebrate the unit’s 40th anniversary.

The Day Hospital welcomed its first patients in 1976 and to mark the occasion members of the public are invited to come along to the hospital, between 10am and 3pm on Thursday 25 to meet staff and hear about the work of the unit.

As part of the open day staff will be offering short tours of the unit as well as explaining about the developments within the service over the years.

Also supporting the event will be various charities including Dundee Carers Centre, Parkinson's Disease UK and staff from the Ageing and Health Department who will be manning information stands.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day and cake and candy and raffle tickets will be on sale to raise funds for the Day Hospital.

Senior Charge Nurse Gillian Phimister said, “The staff and I are very much looking forward to our ‘Open Door’ event at the Day Hospital. The event on Thursday 25 August has been organised so that we can share with the public the many developments and changes to the unit since it first opened in 1976.

“The Day Hospital offers a wide range of medical and rehabilitation assessments carried out by a multi disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. If required, patients can also be referred to a speech and language therapist, dietician, podiatrist or a dentist.

“Services are very much person-centred as we want to make the patient journey as smooth as possible.”
