Golden donation to paediatric renal unit

Dundee couple Harry and Meg Dickson have donated £710 to the paediatric renal unit at Ninewells in memory of their nephew.

The couple celebrated their golden wedding in August this year and asked friends and family to donate money to the unit instead of giving them gifts.

Meg said, “I chose the paediatric renal ward because my late brother Ken and his wife's first baby, Cenydd David Jones, died of renal failure in ward 17 at DRI in 1968, aged six weeks.

“Although it’s many years ago now, we have never forgotten Cenydd or the care he received so we decided to raise money for the paediatric renal unit to help other children.

“We’d like to thank our friends and family for their generosity in helping us to raise this amount.”

Accepting the cheque, paediatric renal nurse Sandra Lloyd said, “We are honoured and delighted to accept this generous donation from Mr and Mrs Dickson which will help children with kidney disease.

“We hope that the memory of their little nephew is made even more special knowing they have made a difference to the lives of other children by making this gift to the renal unit. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for choosing to donate to our special children!”
