Fun Fit groups for Forfar families this autumn

NHS Tayside’s Paediatric Overweight Service (POST) is encouraging families to get active this autumn with free Fun Fit sessions.

Fun Fit Forfar is a programme aimed at families with children aged between 8 and 13 years who need

support to manage their weight. The group offers free sessions in a friendly and interactive environment to help and motivate families to succeed in making healthy lifestyle changes.

The programme, developed by the POST team, will run once a week for 10 weeks. The programme includes family sessions covering varying topics including food labelling, portion sizes, energy balance, positive parenting and general nutrition. This is followed by a fun physical activity and games session for the children while the parents build a support network and work on the challenges they may face as a family.

A parent or carer must accompany children at every session and children can bring a friend or sibling.

Dr Laura Stewart, POST team lead, said, “The lead up to winter and the festive season is a great time to

learn how to make changes for a healthier lifestyle.

“We decided to run a group in Forfar since our previous programmes there were so successful. These sessions are bringing free child and family healthy weight groups into the community, making it more accessible for everyone to attend.”

To book a place on the Fun Fit Forfar groups, or if you have any concerns about your child’s weight, you can contact POST in confidence on 01738 473784 or email post.tayside@nhs.net.
