There were smiles all round at Ninewells Hospital today (Tuesday) when Dundee Football Club stopped by to spread some Christmas cheer.

Players and staff brought sack loads of gifts for patients in the children’s medical ward, surgical ward and outpatient clinics and also visited adult patients in two of the general medical wards.

Fans had the opportunity to get autographs and pose for photographs with their favourite players.

Play specialist Una Paton said, “We are always grateful to the Dundee FC team for coming in to visit us for Christmas. The patients love to see them and it really helps to lift their spirits and make them feel special during what can be a difficult time.

“The players are great with the children and always make them smile, and the gifts are really appreciated too. On behalf of all the patients and staff in Tayside Children’s Hospital, I’d like to thank the team for taking the time to come and brighten up our day.”

Head of Nursing for Medicine and Cardiovascular Rachel Haddock added, “I’d like to thank the players from Dundee Football Club, who took time out of their day for visiting patients in the wards. Patients can find it really difficult at this time of year when ill and in hospital. This really cheered the patients up and shows a real community spirit from the Dundee players.”

A spokesman for Dundee FC said, “We were absolutely delighted to take in the visit to the hospital. The annual Christmas visit is one of the most rewarding things our players and club take part in throughout the year.”
