Principal Orthotist and Orthotics Service Manager Lorna Duncan has retired after 42 years service with NHS Tayside.

Lorna joined NHS Tayside in 1974 as a trainee. After qualifying as an orthotist at the University of Strathclyde in 1977, she worked at the NHS Tayside Orthotics Service based at the Dundee Limb Fitting Centre in Broughty Ferry and Dundee Royal Infirmary. Lorna later took on a post at the Tayside Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Technology (TORT) Centre at Ninewells in 1999.

In addition to her managerial duties, Lorna continued her clinical caseload and was also responsible for fulfilling a service level agreement with NHS Orkney which saw her leading clinics in Kirkwall.

Lorna was active on numerous committees and professional groups at local and national level and was influential in the development and promotion of the orthotics profession throughout her career.

Lorna said, “I have really enjoyed working in the orthotics service and I will miss the patients and my great team of colleagues, many of whom have became good friends.”

In her retirement Lorna will be spending lots of time with her twin granddaughters, and will be enjoying long walks and supporting St. Johnstone Football Club.
