Award-winning fundraiser donates to breast screening unit at Ninewells

June Craig, an award-winning fundraiser, has donated £2,200 to the breast screening unit at Ninewells Hospital.

June, from Perth, raised £2,200 by holding a fundraising event at the Ex Servicemen’s Club in Perth.

June said, “We sold tickets for £5 and held a raffle on the night. The raffle alone raised £1,200! Without the help of the Ex Servicemen’s Club and the people who donated the raffles we wouldn’t have raised such a great amount.”

June has previously raised money for the breast screening unit and other charities raising over £100,000 for charities around Tayside. She began fundraising when her late husband was diagnosed with cancer and after a short break when she was diagnosed with breast cancer 2013, has been fundraising ever since.

June received a British Empire Medal in the Queens New Year Honours list this year. She said, “It was such a shock to find out I had been awarded the British Empire Medal. I still can’t believe it! When I told my best friend she wasn’t surprised at all, then told me she was the one who nominated me.”

Accepting the donation, breast screening services manager Debbie Archibald said, “I would just like to say thank you to June for her ongoing support over the past few years. We are very grateful to her for all the hard work she puts into her fundraising activities. We would also like to congratulate June on her MBE award.”
