FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

Fun Fit groups for Dundee families

NHS Tayside’s Paediatric Overweight Service (POST) is running free Fun Fit sessions starting next month encouraging Dundee families to get active.

Fun Fit Dundee is a programme aimed at families with children aged between 8 and 13 years who need

support managing their weight. The group, which will start in September, offers free sessions in a friendly and interactive environment, to help and motivate families to succeed in making healthy lifestyle changes.

The programme, developed by the POST team, will run once a week for 10 weeks, consisting of a family session covering varying topics including food labelling, portion sizes, energy balance, positive parenting and general nutrition. There will also be fun physical activity and games session for the children while parents have the opportunity to build a support network and work on the challenges they face as a family.

A parent or carer must accompany children at every session and children can bring a friend or sibling.

Dr Laura Stewart, Weight Management Service Lead, said, “As the children go back to school it’s the perfect time to learn how to make changes for a healthier lifestyle. We decided to run a group in Dundee since our previous programmes were so successful.

“Our aim is to work with the whole family in a fun setting and to have happy and confident children at a

healthy weight. We are bringing free child and family healthy weight groups into the community, making it more accessible for everyone to attend.”

To book a place on the Fun Fit Dundee groups, or if you have any concerns about your child’s weight you can contact POST in confidence on 01738 473784 or email post.tayside@nhs.net.
