EMBARGOED UNTIL PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: 1.45PM, THURSDAY, 31 AUGUST, LOCH LEVEN COMMUNITY CAMPUS, KINROSS

Bold marks from Sparks Group!

Artwork created by participants of the Sparks Group working with Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust went on display today (Thursday) in Kinross.

The final display at Loch Leven Community Campus is part of Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust’s (THAT) Visual Arts programme, which aims to improve wellbeing for people living with mixed long-term conditions.

The Sparks Group meets to provide support for adults with disabilities and is a forum to promote good mental health and wellbeing.

Artist Katie Guthrie has been working with the Sparks Group over the eight-session programme, which is designed to explore a variety of artistic techniques in a fun and enjoyable way.

Katie said, “Everyone has produced some really unique art works, we have had great fun and they have been a great group to work with.”

THAT development officer Karine Neill said, “The projects are all about the participant’s enjoyment and their development over the course of the programme. Katie has worked really well with the group to explore the group’s creative ideas. They have been a fantastic group to work with.”

The Sparks Group is supported by NHS Project worker Shona Fowler and Community Learning, Development, Adult and Family Learning Worker, Roseanne Grey.

Shona added, “The group has really enjoyed taking part in this programme and trying a new and different activity to create some great art work.”

This visual arts project is one of a range of art programmes for people with mixed long-term conditions currently being delivered by THAT, which promotes the value of arts-based programmes to enhance quality of life, and to make an important contribution to their health and wellbeing.
