New art exhibition at Stracathro cafe

The art gallery in The Pavilion @ Stracathro cafe in the grounds of Stracathro Hospital is hosting a new art exhibition which will run throughout September and October.

The exhibition features the work of Arbroath artist Frank McDiarmid. Originally from Glasgow, Frank trained as a cartoonist and illustrator with DC Thomson and drew the famous Roger the Dodger character from the Beano for many years.

After developing his fine art skills, Frank had his own art gallery in Arbroath until 2000 when he started to work from home. Frank now runs art classes in Montrose and still does caricatures at events and for special birthdays.

The exhibitions at the cafe are changed approximately every eight weeks and local artists are invited to display their work. The cafe is open Monday to Friday from 8am until 4pm.

The majority of the art on display at the gallery is for sale, with each participating artist donating 20% commission of sales to Stracathro Hospital. All money raised is used to enhance the Stracathro Hospital environment for patients and visitors.
