NHS Tayside supports Occupational Therapy week

NHS Tayside’s occupational therapists have been supporting Occupational Therapy Week with activities across Tayside. Information stands were held in Ninewells, Murray Royal and Perth Royal Infirmary.

Annmarie Crawford, Team Lead Occupational Therapist, said, “We hope to share with staff and visitors the varied approaches occupational therapists can take, what they do and let people learn more about the profession.

“Our occupational therapists are based across health and social care environments and work with children and young people, older people, people with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and mental health issues.

“Occupational therapy takes a whole person approach to both mental and physical health and wellbeing and enables people to achieve their full potential. We work with people to improve their ability to be able to carry out the tasks of everyday living the person wants to keep doing or to return after illness or injury.

“This can include modifying the occupation or the environment, for example someone’s home, to better support their ability to undertake the activity.  This could involve rehabilitation in the community working with someone who wants to return to work following an illness to assessments in hospital to help someone achieve their needs so they can return home safely following an admission.”

For further information on the occupational therapy input available in your area please contact your local social work department or hospital occupational therapy department.
