Singing out at Musicality event in Perth and Kinross

Members of the Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust’s mixed long-term conditions group shared their singing talents today at a performance in Perth and Kinross.

The event, held at the Norrie Miller Studio in Perth Concert Hall, was part of Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust’s (THAT) Musicality programme. The programme is delivered in association with Horsecross Arts Perth and supported by The Gannochy Trust and NHS Tayside.

Singing coach Debra Salem worked with the participants during the eight session programme, which is designed to explore creativity through singing in a fun and enjoyable way.

Debra said, “We are simply a group of people who sing and share music together, and the group members happen to have a variety of long term conditions. Everyone has worked extremely hard and we have had great fun”.

THAT development officer Karine Neill said, “These projects are all about the participant’s enjoyment and their development over the course of the programme. It’s brilliant to watch someone grow in confidence and feel safe in this supported, shared experience.

“Horsecross Arts provide great surroundings in the Norrie Miller Studio and Debra and the volunteer support staff are invaluable to the success of the programme.”

THAT promotes the therapeutic value of arts-based programmes to enhance quality of life, to promote

social inclusion and to empower the individual to make an important contribution to their health and wellbeing.
