NHS Tayside supports Deaf Awareness Week
NHS Tayside is supporting Deaf Awareness Week (15-19 May) by hosting an information stand next week at Ninewells Hospital providing information to people experiencing problems with their hearing or eyesight.
Visitors, staff and patients visiting the hospital are invited to stop by the information stand on the concourse where they can find out about information and local services for people who are experiencing problems with their hearing or their eyesight.
The theme this year for Deaf Awareness Week is 'Common Purpose' and is an opportunity to raise awareness that 1 in 6 people in the UK are deaf or have a hearing loss. The campaign acknowledges the many different organisations that are collaborating and working together in this joint campaign.
The event at Ninewells is supported by NHS Tayside’s Audiology Service as well as various local groups and organisations to support the deaf and hearing impaired community. Groups include Deaf Links, Action on Hearing Loss, Vision PK, North East Sensory Services, Dundee Blind & Partially Sighted Society and Dundee City Council Multi Sensory Service.
During the week visitors to the stand will be able to pick up information leaflets, chat to an NHS Tayside Audiologist and NHS Tayside’s Vision & Hearing Support Worker as well as representatives from various organisations involved in supporting people with hearing loss.
Lorna Donnelly, NHS Tayside Vision and Hearing Support Officer, said, “NHS Tayside is promoting Deaf Awareness Week in partnership with local organisations. The week highlights the many organisations that are available to offer support to people who are deaf, have hearing loss or are having problems with their eyesight.”
