Welcome to Paediatric Audiology. Our experienced team aim to provide a family friendly and patient focused children's hearing service with high quality and timely diagnostic and habilitative care, using a full range of up-to-date diagnostic equipment and hearing devices available within the NHS.
In order to access our service, a referral from your GP, Health Visitor, Speech and Language Therapist or Paediatrician is required.

Our Paediatric Audiology service provides a comprehensive service for children from birth until school leaving age. Generally our young adults transfer to the care of the adult team when they are 18 years old.

The experienced team provide several specialist clinics, seeing patients through each stage of their treatment.

If a hearing loss is identified we work closely with the family, supported by speech and language therapy, teachers of the deaf and specialist paediatricians to reduce the impact the hearing loss may have on the child.

Our experienced team also care for children with complex needs, those who require specific types of testing to allow us to accurately assess their hearing, and for those children with an increased risk of developing a permanent hearing loss.
If you are concerned that your child is not hearing well, please contact you’re GP or Health Visitor to discuss your concerns and a referral to Paediatric Audiology for a hearing assessment may be arranged.
When testing children's hearing, it is important that an appropriate method is used based on the child's age, development, ability and personal interest. Sometimes more than one audiologist is required for assessments.

Some assessments require children to be alert, co-operative and happy to "play"  games with a member of the team (behavioural tests), other tests require children to be quiet, still or asleep(objective tests).

As well as specialising in audiology assessments and fitting of hearing aids, we also support children with tinnitus advice and management of sensitivity to sounds.
