Endoscopy at Perth Royal Infirmary

At PRI we offer different types of endoscopy for example:

• Gastroscopy - the examination of the throat (oesophagus), stomach and start of the small bowel
• Colonoscopy - the examination of the whole of the large bowel (colon)
• Bronchoscopy - the examination of the respiratory system
   

We have two procedure rooms and undertake 20 sessions per week. Throughout the week we carry out various different endoscopies on different days. The endoscopists who work here come from all over Tayside and can be medical doctors, surgeons, associate physicians or specialised nurse endoscopists. They are all part of the Tayside Endoscopy Team.

Patients can expect to be in the department 2-3 hours, but occasionally this may be longer due to emergencies.

• Enter the hospital at the main entrance. From the reception there is a choice of the lift, to your right, or the stairs, past the café on the left. 
• Come up one level to level 3. 
• Follow the glass corridor along to where you see the lifts and stairs that take you to all of the wards.
• Come down one level to level 2.
• Follow the corridor along until you see the sign for “Endoscopy Outpatient”.
• Come into the reception area and present yourself to the desk where you will be welcomed by our receptionist.
