Medical Referrals

This section is for health care professionals and gives general advice about making referrals to the Neurosurgical Department in Dundee.

If you are a patient please contact your GP in the first instance.

Urgent Referrals

For advice regarding inpatients please refer to the Neurosurgical Referral Guidelines.  The on call neurosurgical service is staffed by specialist neurosurgical registrars and advanced nurse practitioners by bleep or mobile phone via switchboard.

Orthotics Pathway for spinal fractures

We usually accept urgent referrals from Tayside and North East Fife but may accept patients from other geographical areas after discussion with the other neurosurgical units in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.

Routine Referrals

If you are a GP looking to make a routine outpatient referral please use the SCI Gateway referral system.  Please include as much detail as possible to allow the referrals to be screened and prioritised.

For other hospital consultants or healthcare professionals please send a letter by post or email.  Please try to make sure that any images are available on the national PACS system.
