NHS Tayside No Smoking Policy

The Scottish Government has set out the ambition for Scotland to be a place where almost nobody smokes. This has been done because they understand the way that tobacco harms our children and our communities. NHS Tayside supports this ambition and asks that people who wish to smoke, only do so out with NHS Tayside premises or grounds.

NHS Tayside has a strict No Smoking Policy which makes all premises and grounds smoke free.

NHS Tayside’s no smoking policy covers all NHS Tayside premises and grounds and reinforces the smoke free message for staff, patients, visitors, contractors and volunteers.

The smoking legislation introduced by the Scottish Government extends the ban on smoking indoors to a 15 metre perimeter outside hospital buildings. This includes areas under awnings and other structures.

This means that anyone smoking within 15 metres of a hospital can face a fixed penalty notice of £50 or a fine of up to £1000 if taken to court. The legislation will be enforced by local authority environmental health officers.

NHS Tayside asks everyone to support our no smoking policy and work in partnership with us to improve the health of the public
