About Us

The Community Macmillan Nurses in Angus are registered nurses who have had specialist training in community and palliative care. We are employed and managed by NHS Tayside. We also have ongoing support and involvement from Macmillan Cancer Support.

Aims Of The Service

  • To offer specialist care and advice to people living at home with an active, progressive or advanced disease
  • To help patients and their families achieve the best quality of life
  • to be a specialist resource to the GP and District Nurse, by complementing and supporting the services they offer

Services We Provide

  • Emotional support for you and your family. Getting to know you and helping you to talk about your feelings, worries and anxieties
  • Giving advice about symptom management; medication and treatment
  • Information and advice about the illness, treatment and the changes it might make to people's lives
  • Information about practical and financial help available from other agencies, including referral to these agencies
  • Support for your family during bereavement

How Can You Be Referred?

You can be referred by your General Practitioner, District Nurse, Hospital Specialist, relative or carer. You can also refer yourself to the unit.

What Happens After You Have Been Referred?

A Community Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist will phone you to offer you an appointment usually within your own home at a time that suits you both. You will then have the opportunity to discuss your needs with a specialist nurse trained in palliative care. You will also have access to the Symptom Control Clinic should you require this.
