This phase of consultation is now closed. Thank you to all those who contributed. The design team will now review your comments and develop the proposals further.

Future updates will be posted on this site when sufficient progress has been made. The concept design proposals remain available below for information. If you have comments for the design team, please email ninewells@systra.com.

Please note that we are sharing concept designs; these are not set in stone and alongside asking for your views, we are undertaking technical work to determine whether they can feasibly be constructed. We want to hear your feedback – in particular, which area(s) you think should be prioritised for improvement. Please take a look at the proposals by clicking on the images below.

Area 1 Option 1: Ninewells Drive shared use path

Widen shared use path to 3m on Ninewells Drive, between Ninewells Avenue and George Pirie Way, in line with the footway between George Pirie Way and Main Entrance.

Provide segregation between pedestrians and cyclists through relocating cyclists to James Arrott Drive (on carriageway) with a new link through grassed sloped area west of Orthotics Service TORT Centre.

Or alternatively to Option 2 above provide segregation between pedestrians, cyclists, and motorised vehicles by constructing a stepped cycleway following Ninewells Drive between the junction with James Arrott Drive and the hospital’s Main Entrance.

• Area 1A: Create table top crossings across George Pirie Way, James Arrott Drive and the multi-storey car park entrance, to prioritise pedestrian and cyclist access.
• Area 2: Create a new footway from Ninewells Drive to Thomas Wise Place, with a zebra crossing point.

Area 3: Kirsty Semple Way footways

  • Reduce carriageway to provide 2m wide footway on east side of Kirsty Semple Way, to link to Children’s Hospital and Maternity Unit entrances from the south.
  • Construct a 2m wide footway along the eastern side of Kirsty Semple Way from the Maternity Unit entrance to James Arrott Drive.
  • Construct a shared use path from Kirsty Semple Way to James Black Place.

Create a new shared use 3m wide link on the desire line along south side of bus/taxi interchange.

  • Create two new crossing points across James Arrott Drive and across Charleston Drive.
  • Realign James Arrott Drive/James Black Place junction to reduce crossing distance for pedestrians.

Create a new shared use 3m wide link from Dickson Avenue to the Hospital Concourse entrance.

Construct a new signalised “Toucan” crossing on Ninewells Avenue.

Area 7: Ninewells Avenue – TASC footways

  • Create table top crossing at Simpson Avenue, improving link to Ninewells Avenue/Glamis Drive.
  • Create new 2m wide footpath link on desire line to connect existing footways.
  • Upgrade the chicane layout to provide a wider gap between barriers, making it easier to navigate.
